I know it has been awhile since we’ve posted, but here’s the thing. Miss D has had some health issues and we’ve been spending our time nailing down the cause(s). Yesterday, Miss D spent all day with Vet getting poked and prodded and x-rayed and ultrasound-ed and the list goes on. The Cushings, the kidneys, the wetting the bed, were the original causes of concern for Mommy but as it turns out, not the real issue. In the end, the news was much more devastating.
Vet found something she called a “mast cell tumor” that has wrapped itself in and around Miss D’s right front elbow. It does not appear to be benign. Given its location, Vet said the only option would be to amputate the leg and start chemo and radiation therapy. Well… that’s not really an option, now is it?
Miss D is 11-ish years old, with osteoarthritis of the spine, weak hind quarters due to a previous back injury, being treated for Cushings and possibly in the early stages of kidney disease. Mommy cannot see taking away one of her only two good legs and then pumping her full of toxic chemicals to boot. It wouldn’t be fair. So…
we’ve opted for quality of life over quantity. We’re going to have fun and enjoy life and treat the symptoms and accept our time together is coming to an end. This makes Mommy very sad. But Deita doesn’t seem to mind. Right now she is teasing and fussing the neighbor dogs. As usual. Living in the Moment.
