Whoa, doggy!   5 comments

Today’s WTF moment provided by… training sessions.

Miss D really enjoys her training sessions. We’re working on “come”, “sit”, “stay”, “crate”. She has “come” down pat! Even when she’s outside barking at the neighbors, I can clap my hands twice, call, “Deita, come!” and she comes a-runnin’.

I think it has something to do with her training treats. It’s crazy how much she enjoys Cheerios. They’re small, easily digestible, made from oats, and most importantly, cheap. 🙂

Tonight, however, Miss D got a little too excited. We kind of practice in a round. “Come!” Yes. “Sit!”. Yes. “Crate!” at this point, Miss D gets a puzzled look on her face, “I know that one. What does she want? What if I run in a circle? No? What? What? What?! Give me the Chererio already!!”

She catches on just a little bit quicker each round and by the end, she’s making a mad dash to her crate (she gets double treats for figuring that one out. I want her to remember it.)

Unfortunately, the last mad dash of the evening was truly a Mad Dash. In her haste to make that turn, she lost control of her back legs and skidded into her food dish.

Whoopsie! Slow down, doggy! You’ll get your treat, I promise.

But she was smart enough to help Mommy clean up the mess…

And now she’s sitting in her crate waiting for her reward (she went in on her own, no reward honey unless I tell you to go). Staring at me. Waiting. That begging look on her face that dogs the world over have perfected. How do they know? Is it an instinct they’re born with? Crazy. We’re done with training for the night, sweetie. No more Cheerios. Stop look at me like that. WTF

  1. Bummer! Can you superglue the bowl? Me

    Sent from my iPhone

    • I could, but she eats out of it and often licks it clean. I don’t want her accidentally ingesting that stuff. Darn. The food and water bowl were a set. 😦 But we have another food bowl we can use.

  2. Lol. Yes, all dog owners know ‘the look’ – the ‘no-one loves me’ look, the ‘I haven’t been fed for weeks’ look and the ‘I have no idea who did that!!!!’ look.

  3. I can picture the whole thing perfectly. I did the same thing teaching Mia ‘bed’. Now when she wants another treat she goes and sits in her bed. (although this is the only time she ever uses it, the couch is much more comfortable.)

  4. That was such a nice food bowl… but bad things can happen to the best ;o) I think Miss D has the same “bowl manners” like me, specially with the rice ;o) after my lunch rice is everywhere in my crib and on me :o)
