A Day of Thanks   3 comments

Happy Thanksgiving to all my friends both here in the US and abroad. Thankful to be employed, to be healthy and happy, and to once again take pleasure in cooking and crafting in my lovely home.

Miss D and I had a wonderful day with the family and better yet… I didn’t have to cook! WooHoo! Talk about Thankful. We headed over to the ‘rents early in order to catch the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and have some yummy egg-and-ham breakfast casserole and homemade lefse with our coffee. Num num num num.

My mom even made a round with tapioca flour so I wouldn’t have to cheat on my grain-free food plan. Then around early afternoon we headed into town for Thanksgiving dinner at the Irregardless Café. Sooooooooo good. I admit it. I cheated a little and had some of the sage-cornbread dressing. OMG. To. Die. For.

Today being Black Friday, Miss D and I have planned a nice, quiet day at home; away from the crowds. I’ve been baking up a storm with homemade granola & almond bread. Later we’ll fix some chicken-broccoli casserole and beef & broccoli stir fry over riced cauliflower. That ought to feed us through the week quick nicely!

As you can see, Miss D has other plans for her day. She’s enjoying the warm, sunny day, thankful not to be cooped up all day long.

Winter is here   7 comments

speaking of uncomfortable sleeping positions …

As you can see, Miss D has taken to wearing her winter sweaters. This one is a hand-me-down from our friend, Pumpkin, a yellow lab/boxer mix who outgrew this sweater long ago. Miss D and I were napping on the sofa in front of a warm fire last night and this is what I awoke to find. Had to snap a pic. Miss D makes me laugh.

We got a new microchip this week. She has another one, according to the tag on her collar, but it appears to have migrated to her armpit and it no longer scans. So we got a new one. What else is new? Nothing much, I’m afraid. What a boring blog post!

Mommy is still nursing a strained back, walking stiffly and afraid to bend. Makes for slow and frustrating night patrols around the neighborhood. Plus we haven’t walked with Nettie the Scottish terrier for awhile because frankly I’m afraid I won’t be able to physically handle it if a dispute breaks out.

The leaves are finally changing colors and beginning to fall. It’s late in the season for this, but we’ve had a warm autumn. Thanksgiving in the United States is next week already! How this year has flown! Miss D is having fun running through the piles of leaves and making a mess of things, as usual. I leave the back door ajar so I don’t have to continually get up to let Miss D in or out. Right now, Miss D is sitting on the threshold, between the door and the step, enjoying the breeze from out of doors while sitting comfortably indoors. Make up your mind, Deita! In or out?
