A Letter to my Neighbor   4 comments

Dear Neighbor,

It is not that I don’t want to chat with you about the weather, dogs, and life in general. Yes, I’m sure your dog is friendly. She certainly appears to be. But can’t you see that my dog is going bonkers? That she has lost all ability to focus on me?

Miss D has jumped and twisted halfway out of her harness. She’s barking so loudly that I can’t hear myself think. She has wrapped her leash so tightly around my leg that neither one of us can move. And I’m beginning to lose sensation below my knee.

Now is not the time to suggest our dogs touch noses. Walk away.

Did you not hear me? Please walk away. BTW, the longer you stand here, the more your dog agrees with me. I cannot gain back control over my dog while yours is so near. Please, please, please walk away.

I beg you to walk away. For wrapped up as I am, I cannot. I’m hot, sticky, eaten alive by mosquitos, rapidly losing my temper, and I have a rope burn on my leg where the leash has cut off my circulation. For the love of all that is holy, WALK AWAY.

  1. Very well said, and I have one of the friendly dogs. I hate it when people assume that their dog needs to be friends with my dog.

    • there’s a reason I cross the street, people! I don’t doubt your dog is friendly. but whether my dog will be friendly is never assured. yesterday, she clearly was not ready for a play date!

  2. I agree with you…hope your neighboor will understand this …. maybe you need a “Beam me up”-button?
